  • What is Browse For A Cause?

    Browse For A Cause is a service which allows you to support your favorite charity by browsing the internet. After adding the browser add-on, a percentage of your online purchases are donated to support the charity of your choice on your behalf - you don't have to remember anything, fill out any forms, donate money, or change your browsing behavior in any way.

  • You don't ever need to pay us

    A number of online shopping merchants like Amazon have an affiliate program which return a percentage (usually 3-5%) of sales to partners. The browser add-on tracks the affiliate revenue generated and allows us to donate it to the charity of your choice.

  • How do I get started?

    It only takes about 30 seconds to get started, then no further time is required to keep supporting your favorite cause. To get started, choose a charity you'd like to support and add the browser add-on - that's it!

  • Where does the donated money come from?

    Online retail partners like Amazon pay a percentage of profits through their affiliate program. We donate a percentage of the revenue to the charity of your choice on your behalf.

  • How much money is donated to charities?

    Each merchant offers returns a different amount to partners, but the average is around 3-5% of the purchase price. This means that if you spend $20, the merchant gives us back around $1. We then donate all profits to the charity of your choice. Our operations overhead is extremely low as this service is maintained by one person.

  • Can we support multiple charities?

    Yes! By selecting multiple charities, you can support them all! Revenue will be split equally between all the charities you support.

  • What if I don't select a charity?

    Money generated from users who elect to not specify a charity support will be distributed equally to all charities listed on the Browse For A Cause homepage.

  • What does the add-on do?

    The add-on will not change your browsing experience at all. The add-on adds an affiliate tracking code to shopping websites so we can donate the revenue to the charities people support.

  • What information is collected by the add-on?

    We store no information regarding products purchased, links visted, or any other personally identifiable data. The add-on stores your preferences (which charity you're supporting), and the last day you were active to distribute affiliate revenue appropriately. Read our privacy policy for more information about sensitive data.

  • How do I get the browser add-on?

    Follow the steps on the front page - it will take no more than 30 seconds! Just select the charity you want to support and follow the step-by-step directions to get the browser add-on.

  • Do I need to register for anything?

    No. Registration would make this service way more complicated than necessary. It would be irresponsible of us to require you to register. Using anonymous Google Analytics for tracking, we are able to distribute the right amount of money to the right charity without making you provide any personal information.

  • Will this slow my browser down?

    No. The plugin will does not have any performance implications on your browser speed. Charities donation amounts are tracked in the background while the browser is idle. All functionality is loaded on demand so that the browser is not slowed down.

  • Can I have this on multiple computers?

    Yes! You can have this on as many computers as you'd like. You can choose whatever charities you'd like to support on each computer and we'll donate the money accordingly.

  • How is money allocated to the proper charity?

    The plugin remembers what charities you're supporting and logs a daily anonymous message to Google Analytics with your charity's name. Every day, we tally the number of users who support a given charity and proportionally distribute all the profits.

  • When will my browser be supported?

    We currently only support Mozilla Firefox. We expect to support Chrome soon. We will be looking to support Safari and Internet Explorer in the near future. We are unable to give exact dates for future releases, but follow our twitter for announcements on when other browsers are supported.

  • Can I White Label the add-on for my charity?

    Yes! We can build a (free) custom White Label add-on for your charity. Get in contact with us, and we can get started branding Browse For A Cause for your charity right away!

  • Can our charity be added to the options on the site?

    We will routinely add feature new charities on the front page. If you represent a non-profit organization, please contact us with information on how to get your charity added. You can use the link builder to link your users directly to our site where your charity will be selected as the the default option.

  • How often is money sent to the charities?

    Money is sent every month to charities which have accrued over $10 in revenue. If a charity hasn't generated over $10 for the month, then the total will be carried over to the next month.
